01. Goal

Transform a manually run office game into a fully automated football prediction platform built for scale. The product needed to support multiple concurrent public games, handle real-time Premier League fixtures, and process entry fees and payouts, all while delivering an engaging, competitive experience that could grow through community traction alone.

02. Strategy

I designed the product from the ground up, starting with core game logic, UX flow, and payment integration. Every feature was mapped around the dynamics of “last-man-standing” play, with thoughtful interaction design to ensure users could easily track their progress, plan ahead, and understand the consequences of each week’s pick.

The platform allowed users to join open games, select a new team each gameweek (without repeating past picks), and advance based on real match outcomes.

Careful thought and iteration went into edge cases like rollover pots or split winnings. A lean team of three, including myself as designer and part-engineer, shipped the MVP in time for the 2019/20 Premier League season.

03. Outcome

The app grew rapidly through word of mouth and grassroots engagement, gaining nearly 10,000 users within a single season. Games regularly reached payout pools of over £2,000, and player retention stayed high due to clear UX, competitive mechanics, and prize-driven motivation. Though the platform was paused due to external commitments, we are now relaunching a fully rebuilt version ahead of the 2025/26 season with stronger infrastructure and growth targets to match or exceed previous traction.

The platform has provided a foundation for ongoing feature launches without disrupting the user experience. Feedback from investors and users points to clear navigation, trustworthy branding, and a product that lowers the barrier to previously inaccessible asset classes.
